PERSONALPHOTO.JPG

My fascination with fine art goes back to early childhood. I am completely self taught and was in full time employment when I decided to take my painting far more seriously. Because spare time was so limited I decided to paint still life. Obviously the subject matter was readily available and was the most efficient genre to develop skills. Still life demands that the artist learns how to deal with a vast range of colours and textures which go beyond the scope of more limited genres. As the years passed I realised how well this strategy had worked since I was now able to turn my skills to the most demanding and varied subjects which are finished in minute detail meaning that only a very limited number of paintings can be produced each year.

Being versatile enough to paint anything is the most stimulating and exciting aspect to my work. I am guided simply by what I perceive to be beautiful. I paint pictures which I would be pleased to hang on the walls of my own home to enhance my quality of life. My pictures have to be visually pleasing and provide the viewer with a feel good factor. My credo really is as simple as this. I am also truthful to nature and have “classical realism” approach to my work. I have combined traditional subjects with the most contemporary methods and materials now available to an artist. Using cutting edge spectral pigments and colour mixing techniques increases the luminosity of the painting.

An idea for a painting often comes to me and I begin the research for reference material which can take several years to complete. This process has led to the unexpected discovery of a subject and I have learned to keep an open mind and be alert to all possibilities. I spend a considerable amount of time researching genuine landscape, settings in appropriate light, colour etc to ensure the quality and authenticity of all of the component parts of a painting. I also use only real life models in period costume. No aspect of content or composition is imaginary.

My paintings are increasingly sought after and are in private collections in the UK, USA and Australia.
